What is FSSAI?
FSSAI stands for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, established to ensure the safety and quality of food products for human consumption in India. In India, there are three types of food licenses under FSSAI registration based on the scale of the food business and the turnover of the business. The three types of food licenses are:
Basic FSSAI Registration: Basic FSSAI registration is required for small food businesses with a turnover of up to Rs. 12 lakhs per annum. This is suitable for small-scale food business operators, such as small food manufacturers, petty retailers, and small-sized food businesses.
State FSSAI License: State FSSAI license is required for food businesses with a turnover of more than Rs. 12 lakhs and up to Rs. 20 crores per annum. This is suitable for medium-sized food businesses such as food manufacturers, food storage units, and transporters.
Central FSSAI License: Central FSSAI license is required for food businesses with a turnover of more than Rs. 20 crores per annum. This is suitable for large-scale food businesses such as food importers, 100% Export Oriented Units, and large manufacturers.

Validity & Renewal OF FSSAI LICENSE:

It is essential to renew the FSSAI license before its expiry to continue running the food business legally. The renewal process must be initiated at least 30 days before the expiry of the current license. Here is the renewal process for different types of licenses:
Basic FSSAI Registration: The renewal process for basic FSSAI registration is the same as the registration process. The FBO must apply for renewal by submitting Form A and paying the requisite fee.
State FSSAI License: The renewal process for a state FSSAI license involves submitting Form A along with the necessary documents and fees to the concerned State Authority.
Central FSSAI License: The renewal process for a central FSSAI license involves submitting Form A along with the necessary documents and fees to the Central Licensing Authority.
